ROM Update
Generic ROW
Firmware: 1.54.0.00
CC-Cap: GEN-ENG-005
Carrier DB: 296
WM6 version: 5.2.1239 (Build 17746.0.2.4)
I had problems using updater, getting the Unsuported Device error. It maybe because eventhough I have a Treo750-1.15-ROW device, I bootloaded WM6, the 3AU version with the Vodafone CapPackage.
So I bootloaded this Generic ROM and I noticed the following:
- the operator logo (when turning the radio on and off) disappeared! WOOHOO! Not that I minded the Vodafone logo since I do use a Voda sim, but incase I change sims, atleast now I dont have an operator logo..
- the click sounds have reverted back to being non-existent (which I think is the norm for WM6).. but I missed it from WM5 so I loaded the fix for the sounds..
- Band selection I remember was around 4 options, now there is only 2 - [1]GSM (900+1800)+UMTS 2100; [2]GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)

Thanks for the update, the download seemed to finish a bit quickly, and the file was corrupt, but Palm wont let me download again. Cant believe it. Anyone got a copy that I can download, have been waiting so long to get WM6, and still dont have it for my superb Treo 750.
ReplyDeleteHi Craig,
ReplyDeleteWill try and find a place to upload it and will let you know. :-)
Thanks for this appreciate the update. its so close now. WM6 bring it on :)
ReplyDeleteWell managed to get the fil downloaded by for some reason windows will not let me unzip the file, whatever I do. ARGH, so close and yet so far.
ReplyDeleteI also lost my connection whilst downloading now I still dont have a copy of WM6. Help anyone??
Meant to say I got the download but Windows is blocking me whatever I do. Any suggestions
ReplyDeleteTry using WinRAR instead to inzip it..

ReplyDeleteI got it from here
ReplyDeleteThanks Josie. I got it. By the way are you a Filipina? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteHi Rey,
ReplyDeleteYes I am.. :-)
Are you Filipino?
Yep! I am, and I felt great and proud specially knowing now that a Filipina had helped a lot of Treo owners happy with their toys. By the looks of it, you spent too much time with your gadgets and computer, ain't it? My regards to your family and friends out there and keep up the good work. (^_~)
ReplyDeleteHi Rey.. hhmm yes I am a bit of a gadget geek.. can't seem to stay away from them! I am glad that what I post is of use to people. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the warm regards! Ingat ka lagi!

ReplyDeleteHi Josie!
ReplyDeleteHow are you? I've got some good news for you. You can now use the palm desktop updater to upgrade or downgrade your ROM by simply doing the following;
1 Launch desktop updater(Dont click start yet)
2 Go to your temp folder by typing %temp% on your run command console.
3 Locate payload XML file.(can be found in odd numbered folder)
4 Open XML File with notepad exe.
5 Replace RWE with your current carrier
6 Replace low 1.16 to 1.13
7 Replace high 1.16 to 2.24
8 click file SAVE.
9 Exit the explorer window.
10 Click start on the updater and it will run through the final stage.
11 No more unsupported device message.
I used this trick to downgrade to 3AU's ROM, deleted all the contents of the partition, performed hard reset then add the CapPackage and CarrierDB file of the new RWE ROM version. After another hard reset it leaves me with the 3AU's ROM with 1.52.30.00 radio but with all the four band intact and a snappier system.
Think this might get you busy in a while huh? (^_~)
Rey, you rock!!
ReplyDeleteDo you mind if I create a post out of your instructions?
I used the 2.23 version which was released for non-branded Treos.
Firmware: 1.54.00.00
My software version still says 1.15-ROW but not a biggie..
do you find the 3AU version more stable than the later released ROW version?
Yeah! I find the 3AU ROM to be more stable and snappier than the RWE ROM. I deleted the CapPackage and CarrierDB to give me access to 4 band choice, after which I installed back the RWE CapPackage and CarrierDB to give access to PUSH email and windows live. It's a lot leaner than the full 3AU ROM.
ReplyDeleteUsing the trick i've mentioned earlier, I had my firmware version change from
ReplyDelete2.23 VFU to 2.19 VFU
Note the VFU instead of ROW or 3AU
To me, this numbering looks like a simple electronic tag to enable the updater to identify the target machine and has nothing to do with the OS's responsiveness.
I just checked mine now and its 2.23 ROW..
ReplyDeletehhmm.. wonder if i should go back to 2.19 3AU..
do i have your permission to post your instructions on how to get around the "device not recognised"?
Yes of course!
ReplyDeleteThats a collection of bit's and pieces of ideas and recommendatons from forums which had been simplified to enable those not geeky enough, to understand and be able to execute the procedure.
Merits should go the unknown contributors.(^_~)
Hi Jhosie,
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you would mind to help me out with something about the Treo 750.
I have an AT&T-Cingular Treo 750, from USA, so it has english language. Im from Mexico and want to:
1. Unlock it.
2. Upgrade it to the WM6, in SPANISH.
NOTE: I have upgraded it to WM6 in english.
I saw this thread where you post a link to download the file:
Treo750_2_23_ROW_ES_DesktopUpdater.zip
Do you know if it would work with my AT&T-Cingular Treo 750.
Thanks!
Hi Elio,
ReplyDeleteFirstly, is your Treo unlocked?
When you upgraded to the English version, did you use the upgrade using the official AT&T release or hacked it?
If yes to both, i.e. your Treo is unlocked and you hacked into your Treo to upgrade to the English version, then I think you will be able to upgrade to the Spanish version.
cheers!
Hello Jhosie,
ReplyDeleteI have a Treo 750 ATT with WM5 in english. I would like to change it to spanish. Would you mind telling me how?
Hi Juan,
ReplyDeleteMy apologies but I don't know how to change the language..
